Frederick Newhouse
Frederick Newhouse – Board Member
Frederick (Fred) Newhouse is a native of Hallsville, Texas, and currently resides in Houston. He attended Prairie View A&M University (Texas) and the University of Washington in Seattle, receiving degrees in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of International Business, respectively. Between undergraduate and graduate school, he served 2 years in the US Army. In 2012 Fred retired after 38 years in the Oil Industry as Regional Director of Public Affairs for Valero Energy’s Houston and Texas City refineries. Prior to this assignment, he served in a variety of engineering, human resources, and public affairs positions within Valero and ExxonMobil’s operations in Texas, California, and Louisiana.
In 1976, while working at Exxon and simultaneously competing in track and field, Fred won Olympic Gold and Silver Medals at the Montreal Olympic Games. He has been involved in some capacity in track and field for his entire life and currently officiates national and international competitions.
Fred currently runs a cattle ranch in Walker County, Texas, and has been associated with agriculture since his childhood. He currently serves on the board of Texas Rural Communities and the Walker County Soil and Water Conservation Board.
Fred and his wife Rhonda attend Fallbrook Church in Houston. His hobbies are gardening and volunteering in youth-oriented programs.
The Prairie View A&M Foundation (PVAMF) is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to securing and stewarding gifts and grants that benefit Prairie View A&M University.
